Using well understood technology that is operating in hundreds of nuclear reactors and safely powering millions of homes around the world right now.
The Rolls-Royce SMR’s PWR is a symmetrically arranged, three-loop, close coupled reactor producing 1358MWt of heat. The plant design provides multiple layers of safety, redundancy and back-up systems - meeting the highest standards of safety, security, safeguards and environmental protection.
This unique ‘factory-built’ approach means that approximately 90% of the plant will be factory fabricated, tested and delivered to site as modules, where they will be assembled and commissioned by the Rolls-Royce SMR team under an Engineering, Manufacture, Assembly (EMA) contract.
Offering a complete nuclear power station as a manufactured product delivers the cost and risk reductions and quality improvements associated with factory fabrication, while simultaneously removing the expense, lead-time and risk associated with developing a new, inexperienced supply chain and EPC contractor team for each new plant constructed.
