Do you have a keen interest in delivering engineering safety across a variety of mechanical subject areas such as Mechanical Isolations, Cryogens, PUWER, LOLER, Pressure and Vacuum, PSSR, Local Exhaust Ventilation, Natural Gas, Steam, and Engineering Safety across the asset lifecycle (design decommissioning)?

Specialist Mechanical Safety Engineering Manager

Location: Reading

Package: £62,020 - £92,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

As the Specialist Mechanical Safety Engineering Manager (AWE Senior Mechanical Authority), you will report directly to the Head of the Engineering Safety Organisation and be required to:

  • Support the Head of the Engineering Safety Organisation at AWE by providing a Mechanical focal point for advice, information and expertise on policy, best practice and safety engineering knowledge

  • Lead the Senior Authorised Persons (Mechanical), and their teams, in support of a wide array of unique technologies that only exist at AWE

  • Organise, shape and improve an organisation of competent mechanical persons responsible for application of the mechanical-related safety across AWE

  • Understand, monitor and improve AWE's compliance with relevant legislation, standards and good practice

  • Provide an Intelligent Customer interface with AWE's Regulators at a corporate level (ONR/HSE/EA)

  • Build and maintain communications with other organisations to share best practice and improve

  • Help shape AWE's future as a world class company

Ideal attributes for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage a high performing and motivated engineering team

  • Demonstrate experience in development, implementation and/or application of mechanical safety policy

  • Ability to deliver mechanical safety throughout the asset lifecycle (design to decommissioning)

  • Demonstrate experience of a variety of mechanical subject areas/regulations such as Mechanical Isolations, Cryogens, PUWER, LOLER, Pressure and Vacuum, PSSR, Local Exhaust Ventilation, Natural Gas, Steam, and Engineering Safety across the asset lifecycle (design decommissioning)

  • Operate as an Authorising Engineer (JSP 375), or equivalent

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards professional recognition

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or recognised Health & Safety qualification

All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
