The role
As a Commissioning Engineer Mechanical, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This role is vital to ensure the functionality and safety of submarine systems, providing assurance to the MOD and Royal Navy. This role offers unique experience into engineering, submarine systems and associated commissioning requirements, with great opportunities for career development.

Day-to-day, you'll be part of a team that plans and delivers commissioning tasks onboard submarines, taking responsibility for ensuring the safe and functional operation of systems in support of submarine maintenance periods.

The team specialise in testing and fault-finding systems to prove their functionality. This role provides an exciting opportunity within the SSN Commissioning Group which forms part of the Submarine Business Unit.

This role requires key interfaces with the MOD customer, Royal Navy personnel and other Babcock personnel, such as Production and Project teams.

  • Production of documentation to enable commissioning activities to be undertaken safely and in order to meet the desired outcome.
  • Undertaking commissioning activities onboard submarines, such as installation checks, testing and setting to work of systems.
  • Setting to work other staff in support of commissioning activities as part of a Safe System of Work.
  • Identifying and mustering equipment in support of commissioning activities.
  • Ensuring that submarine systems are fully functional in order to provide assurance to the customer.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Commissioning Engineer Mechanical

  • Engineering experience
  • Experience of commissioning systems - Desirable
  • Submarine systems experience - Desirable

Qualifications for the Commissioning Engineer Mechanical

  • Level 3 in engineering discipline or equivalent with suitable experience

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
